An ostomy barrier, also commonly known as a wafer, is an adhesive component of an ostomy pouching system that attaches to the abdomen and surrounds the stoma.

Its two primary functions are to protect the peristomal skin (the skin around the stoma) from irritating waste and to provide a secure foundation for the ostomy pouch to attach to your body.
